Small Producers Groups (SPG)

People who are organized into legal organizations or who are in the process of such legalization, dedicated to agricultural activities, livestock and/or gathering, processing, conversion and/ or marketing activities.

They are legally defined as community, co-operative, association, society or union according to the Mercantile Society Law and to the Agrarian Law of Mexico. Merchants or private brokers are excluded.

This category also excludes individual producers whose income is higher than
$ 20,000 US Dollars a year from sales of organic products, or producers who have more than 25 hectares under cultivation which they are seeking to certify for commercialization.

In exceptional cases medium producers with the characteristics mentioned above can be accepted but only when they do not exceed a yearly income of $40,000 US Dollars from sales of an organic product or if they have no more than 40 hectares under cultivation that they claim to certify for commercialization. They can not represent more than 5% of the total producers within the organic project and they must be audited annually by an internal and external control. A separate report of these producers must be annexed to the general report of the organization.
